There are many ways to maintain your tires, and we’ll be going over those services down below, but first we want to help you determine whether it’s time to replace your old tires for a fresh set. One telltale sign that your tires need replacing is the treads. Over time, driving will wear down your tire treads until they’re simply too low to provide adequate traction. Take a moment to check in on your tires by using the age-old Penny Test. Wedge a penny between the treads on your tires, with Abraham Lincoln’s head facing down. If you can see the top of his head above your treads, it’s time to replace your tires! Tire Rotation
If your tires still have plenty of life in them, you’ll want to make sure you’re keeping up with the maintenance that will help them last as long as possible. One way to do this is by getting a tire rotation on a regular basis. This means that our mechanic will move your tires to a new position on your truck, so that each one gets an equal amount of wear. For example, your mechanic might move your back right tire to the back left, and the back left tire to the front left, and so on. Therefore, if your front wheels naturally take more of a beating, each tire will “take turns” being in the front. This will help your tires wear out evenly, so that when it’s time to replace them, you can replace all four tires at once.
Wheel Alignment
Similar to the tire rotation, a wheel alignment is a great way to ensure that all four of your tires are getting the same amount of wear, at the same rate. This will prevent one tire front from becoming disproportionately worn down, which can lead to rips, tears, or even getting a flat! During an alignment, the mechanic will adjust the suspension of your truck, so that all four tires are flat against the road. Some of the telltale signs are feeling the steering wheel rumble or vibrate. You might also notice that you veer to the right or left while steering straight.
