What Powers the 2022 Ram 3500?
If you’re in the market for a heavy-duty truck, chances are you’re doing so for its power, so that’s where we’ll start. The 2022 Ram 3500 employs a standard 6.4L V8 engine pumping out 410 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque for a maximum towing capacity of up to 18,210 pounds. In addition, a 6.7L Cummins TurboDiesel Inline-6 engine is available to provide 370 horsepower and 850 lb-ft of torque for an impressive 22,670-pound towing capacity. Last but certainly not least is the optional high-output Cummins TurboDiesel 6.7L I-6, which pushes out 420 horsepower and a best-in-class 1,075 lb-ft of torque! This allows drivers to haul up to 37,090 pounds, which also leads the heavy-duty truck class! The gas-powered V8 engine is linked to a TorqueFlite 8-speed automatic transmission that powers the rear wheels. However, 4×4 is available across the lineup. The diesel engines are also mated to the 8-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drivetrain. Diesel-powered models with 4×4 employ a 6-speed automatic transmission.
