New 2017 Chrysler 200 at Don Vance Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM for Marshfield, MO

Just a few months ago, the 2017 Chrysler 200 (FWD setup) achieved five stars for overall protection, the highest score in NHTSA's safety-rating program! Chrysler creates three trims from scratch for 2017 within its 200 line, raising the trim number total to five. These fresh trims are named the 200C Platinum, Limited Platinum, and Touring. The traditional trims now seen in 2017 are the LX and the 200S, and all trims shine with a smooth driving experience and business-class feel. A gloss black exterior tones down the Touring trim with its new 'Dark Appearance' Package, which has eighteen-inch 'Jet Black Gloss' wheels and handsome black-outlined halogen headlamps. The 200S trim's 'Alloy Edition' Package also rocks a sport-tuned suspension, gains the option of complex all-wheel-drive (AWD) systems with Sport modes, as well as adds Dark Bronze and Titanium finishes onto select portions of the 200S. You should know as well that the IIHS gave the Chrysler 200 their 'Top Safety Pick' award for midsize sedans in 2017!

Under the 200's Hood

A 2.4-liter, 4-cylinder Multiair2 Tigershark engine makes its way into the 200 as standard. Also standard is FWD and a 9-speed automatic transmission. If drivers have it setup like that, the 200 will attain 184 horsepower and 173 pound-feet of torque. There is also a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine that manufactures 295 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque, available within either the 200C Platinum trim and the 200S trim. The 3.6-liter V6 comes standard with FWD and a 9-speed automatic transmission, but, AWD is obtainable. If drivers do make it all-wheel drive, an independent, fully disconnecting rear axle applies energy to all wheels as needed, and otherwise keeps the 200 in a fuel-conserving two-wheel drive mode. The 2017 Chrysler 200 rated, via the EPA, an estimated highway fuel economy of 36 miles per gallon in its most fuel efficient configuration. The back end is capably set with a Multi-link independent suspension, with dual-reacting twin-tube shock absorbers. The front suspension is made up of a MacPherson strut with matching shocks.

Design of Chrysler 200

The 2017 Chrysler 200 manifests in five amazing trims: the 200C Platinum, Touring, LX, 200S, and the Limited Platinum. Any 2017 200 trim you choose will have, as standard, steering wheel mounted controls. There is some obvious thoughtful design by allowing access to a dashboard storage compartment (with levels) via a rotary transmission shifter possibility. The Chrysler 200 has the option for an 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen and comes standard with a 16-cubic-foot trunk as well. The LX trim has 17-inch steel wheels, height-adjustable front seats, automatic headlights, a 60/40-split folding rear seat, cruise control, keyless ignition and entry, AC, and a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel-- all as standard. The 200 Limited Platinum will put LED running lights on the front end, the Uconnect 8.4 system (with Navigation as an option), 17-inch alloy wheels, a rearview camera, leather upholstery, different exterior and interior trim, heated 8-way driver and 6-way front passenger seats that are power-adjustable, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. The Limited Platinum trim gets a handy 7-inch thin-film transistor (TFT) display as standard. The Touring trim makes the drive sleek with 17-inch alloy wheels, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, floor mats, and the Uconnect 5.0. The 200S keeps the snow off with heated mirrors, the adds fog-lights, power-adjustable heated front sport-seats, a satellite radio, a sport-tuned suspension, 18-inch wheels, a special trim on the exterior and interior, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Obtainable standalone features and packages to consider would be the Uconnect 8.4 touchscreen, the 200S Comfort Group (has all 'Comfort & Convenience' items), a panoramic sunroof, the Premium Lighting Group (both LED foglights and xenon headlights), the Navigation & Sound Group, and heated/ventilated front seats with full leather upholstery. The 200C Platinum has the Comfort & Convenience Group items, the Premium Lighting Group items, the Uconnect 8.4 touchscreen, full leather seating, and an Alpine audio system with 10-speakers.

Conclusions

The 2017 Chrysler 200 brings in a lot of safety right from the start with standard items like the LATCH system, a ParkView rear backup camera, a security alarm, a tire pressure monitoring indicator, antilock brakes, traction and stability control, supplemental side-curtain airbags for front and rear outboard seats, front side airbags, front knee airbags, and a front-passenger seatbelt alert. Available on the 200C Platinum is the SafetyTec package, which adds more safety features like brake assistance, rear-cross traffic alert, forward collision warning, blind-spot and lane departure warning, automatic wipers, adaptive cruise control, and an automated system for parallel/perpendicular parking. In government crash tests (NHTSA), the Chrysler 200 (FWD) earned 5 stars for both side- and front-impact protection. In Insurance Institute for Highway Safety crash tests, the 200 was earned a top score of 'Good' in side-impact, small-overlap moderate-overlap front-impact, roof strength front-impact, and head restraint tests. In more IIHS testing, the Chrysler 200's automatic braking and frontal collision warning systems (both available), grabbed the highest rating of 'Superior'. It's simple to make the case for the Chrysler 200 in every category, but the real test it will pass with ease is when you test drive one.
